Charles Francis Mann, Jr. was born in 1946 in Darby, PA to Charles and Dorothy Mann. He graduated from Norwin High School in 1964 and attended Tarkio Presbyterian College in Tarkio, Missouri, graduating in 1968. He was drafted in February of 1969 and went to Fort Jackson, South Carolina for basic training. On arriving in Vietnam in 1969, he was assigned to the Americal Division, the 196th Light Infantry, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry. Chuck served as platoon sergeant and temporary platoon leader. He was injured and spent about three weeks at the hospital in Chu Lai and then served at Battalion Headquarters for seven months and was discharged in December of 1970. Chuck married Michelle Ann Chriski in 1984 and he has two children, two stepchildren and five grandchildren.
