Mr. Allen, who was born in Shreveport and now lives in Keithville, Louisiana, served in Vietnam in 1970. He was on ambulatory duty in a hospital in Japan where he saw some of the conflicts most grievously wounded. One was a young man who lost most of his legs and one arm. Many others suffered with similar conditions. Sergeant Allen came home, fulfilled his army duty, and returned to Grambling University where he completed his degree. He worked for UPS for 30 years before retiring.
