Lieutenant Colonel Nelson flew both fixed wing and helicopters in his career, which included service in the Vietnam War. Meanwhile, as the US Marine Corps sent him from post to post, his family could accompany him on many of them. That meant his wife, Marcia (Ford) Nelson, constantly packed and unpacked and took care of their children as they accompanied him to bases across the country. LTC Nelson was always amazed at her stamina. Stationed in Hawaii, he was ordered to Japan for duty overseas. The family couldnt go with him, nor would the marines send the familys 1957 Ford back to the mainland. Marcia had to get to her hometown of Plain Dealing, Louisiana with their children, all the familys possessions, and no car.
