Mr. Woods serve gallantly in the Vietnam War as a non-commissioned officer in a cavalry unit surviving combat in tanks and armored personnel carriers. However, his army career stretched back into the 1950s and included service in Alaska when the state was still a territory. He recalls Anchorage as a city still rough around the edges, where you could meet any type of sinner you wanted to up there or didnt want to in most cases. It was so rough the army allowed soldiers to carry side arms on the streets. Once, Allen and a buddy named David, were sipping beers in a bar and bragging about their quick-draw prowess:
