Mr. Sullivan spent some of his boyhood in Castor, Louisiana, where his familys farm was only a quarter mile from Rosenwald Baptist Church, an African-American church. He attended it as the only white kid there. Its music seeped into his soul as well as other forms of black music. He especially recalls one individual who showed him a way to play the guitar like no other musician. Mr. Sullivan, a World War II veteran, began working for KWKH after the war and served as announcer for Louisiana Hayride for many years. He later ran a recording studio in Dallas, where he recorded top musicians in several genre.
