This Parkin, Arkansas native entered the U.S. Marine Corps in reserve officer in Quantico, Virginia, where he attended artillery school. While bombers and fighter airplanes were filling the air, and tanks rumbled across the countryside, officers were still learning skills on horseback. Horses no longer could keep up with warfare, and their place in the military became largely ceremonial. Frazier went on to service in the Pacific and in China, and was called up again for duty in the Korean War.
