Rev. Hopkins, a native of San Antonio, served in Vietnam with the 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery, in 1967-68. Most days found him with his chaplains assistant, driving to fire bases in the countryside, often coming under fire, and ministering to 800 men in his battalion. He was serving during the Tet Offensive, in which the enemy he says, was beaten badly on the battlefield, but gained a political victory.
