On June 3, 1967, Captain Larry D. Wiggins, a native of Moss Hill, Texas, and a pilot in the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron, was flying his F-105 Thunderchief he had named for his wife, Dorothy, high in the air near Hanoi. His squadron spotted three MiGs and engaged them. Major Ralph Kuster shot down one of them. Larry hit the other with his Sidewinder AIM-9 missile. Meanwhile, his bomb assessment camera, set to record a ground attack, instead recorded the MiG engagement. In the entire war, it was the only time a Sidewinder missile downing a MiG was recorded on film. It was his 75th of 100 missions he flew in the Vietnam War. Throughout them all, he says, someone else looked out for him. His wife, back home in Houston, thought so, too.
