Captain Clark was shot down while flying his P-51, the Louisiana Lady, in support of Operation Market Garden. Wounded in the leg, he was captured by Germans, and sent to the Stalag Luft 3 prisoner of war camp, where he strove to keep up his strength despite sparse, badly prepared food, and a temptation to remain inactive.
