David Shelton was born in 1950 in Bossier City, Louisiana and adopted by Gladys and Dewitt Shelton. His sister, Pat, graduated from Oklahoma University in 1948 before David was born. She met Elvis and did the first interview with him in Shreveport. She also worked at the Shreveport Journal and covered the city hall beat. When he was about six, his sister bought him a piano and encouraged his interest in music. He began studying with Eddie Kozak and Hines William. His first job was playing with Hines at the Stork Club in the Venetian room and with the Jack Roberts Group. He married Betty Jane Tiner, sister of the Journal editor Stanley Tiner, when he was 20. David had two agents, Bob Hokstra in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Bob Harris covered the Midwest. He played all over the United States with Johnny Roland before beginning his own band. He has founded the bands Treasure, Howdy, the Home Wreckers and Caddo Band and his bands have opened for Hank Williams Junior, Larry Gatlin, Guy Clark, David Allen Coe and Willie Nelson. In the local area, he has played progressive country, big band, and soul music. He returned to Shreveport for a time and began to play with different bands including Bill Bush, Pat Anders, Jerry Beach and Danny Miller. His CD is called Totally in Love.
