Mr. Versa O. Clark was born in 1946 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Bertha M. and Sandy Clark. In 1953, he lost three of his six siblings in a duplex fire in Ledbetter Heights, or `The Bottoms.' After the fire, the family moved around a lot, so Versa attended Mt. Zion, Ingersoll, Central, J.S. Clark, Union and graduated from George Washington Carver High School. Versa signed up with the Air Force in 1964 and attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and technical training for supply logistics in Amarillo, Texas. Versa was then sent to Larson Air Force Base in Washington which was a Strategic Air Command. In the spring of 1966, he was sent to Lajes Field, Azores for eighteen months. After Lajes, Versa was went to Barksdale and worked in the weather squadron as their supply liaison for six months. In 1968, Versa volunteered to go to Vietnam and was assigned to Tan Son Nhut. After leaving Vietnam he was stationed in Homestead, Florida in a communication squadron then at Lowry Air Force Base, Colorado from 1970 until 1972, He then returned to Vietnam. His second tour in Vietnam in 1972 was to the same job at the 377^th Supply Squadron working with document control and research. The 377^th never lost any men but there were 122 mm Russian rocket attacks to contend with. Because the war was ending, he only spent seven months in Saigon and Versa was one of the last to leave Vietnam on March 4, 1973. When he left, he was sent to Thailand to Nakhon Phanom for five months to complete his tour. At the end in 1973, he was sent to Travis Air Force. When he was discharged he attended Southern University in Shreveport and later transferred to Centenary College. Over the years, he worked chamber of commerce jobs and wrote articles for the Shreveport Times, worked in Albuquerque and Denver as well as Shreveport-Bossier. In New Mexico he began teaching at Manzano High School and taught for seven years, teaching geography, history, and economics. He retired and returned to Shreveport in 2012.
