Chris McCaa was born Shreveport, Louisiana and his first recollection of music was listening to his parent's maid singing Negro spirituals to him when she put him down to nap. His mother would take him to the Symphony and he recalls seeing Dave Brubeck, the jazz pianist and Gerry Mulligan, baritone saxophone player perform there when he was nine. He knew then that he wanted to be a musician. After graduating from high school, he began playing rock and roll in clubs on the Bossier Strip, including The Dart, Merle Kimberlys Whiskey A Go Go, and Kim's in different bands like Hummingbird and Terro and began A Train with Buddy Flett. His favorite place is New Orleans, where he feels he is a citizen of the heart. Once he and his band began writing original music and recording they were able to play great venues like Tipitina's in New Orleans and CBGB's in New York where The Ramones and The Talking Heads got there start. He has opened for B.B. King, Bobby Bland, Delbert McClinton and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. In the 1980's he and his band, The Insatiables, won the MTV Basement Tapes award and he met his wife, Tina, when he was played with The Insatiables. After she retired, they opened McCaa Arts and she does photography while Chris sculpts. He enjoyed playing at Crossroads in Nacogdoches, Texas at Stephen F. Austin College, Rick's in Tyler, Texas and Enoch's as well as Chief's in Baton Rouge and Fitzgerald's in Houston.
