Bud Christian was born in 1949 In Shreveport, Louisiana to Leonard Lyons and Evelyn Ramsey Lyons. His step-father, Herbert Christian adopted him when he was six years old. Bud had two brothers, one sister, three half-brothers and one half-sister. When Bud was growing up, his mother was the Jim Reeves fan club president and someone from the Louisiana Hayride could be found at their dinner table every Saturday night. He married in 1967 and moved to Minden to run a grocery store. Later, Bud quit his job at the grocery store and began playing in a band that opened for Mel Tillis at Hirsch Coliseum. He also played on the Bossier Strip in the band, Rough Country. The first major act Bud played with was Freddy Fender and he also worked with Ray Price and Big All Downing. His band opened for Willie Nelson in 1987. After leaving Willie Nelson and returning to Shreveport he formed Homemade Jam. Bud began doing Sunday afternoon matinees at the Municipal Auditorium. He had two or three good entertainers for the matinees and Bud brought in young local talent to play as well, mentoring the artists and helping them get their start at the Municipal Auditorium. In his career, Bud has recorded hundreds of records and done many master sessions for big name artists. His biggest inspiration was George Jones and his song `Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes.' Bud has three children and four grandchildren and married Carol Moody Christian in 2000.
