Buddy Flett was born in 1953 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Dane and Evangeline Flett. His father was from South Dakota and his mother was from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Growing up, Buddy listened to Hootenanny, Pete Seeger and other folk players. Both he and his brother, Bruce, played the guitar. The year of Woodstock, the same show was held in Dallas and he was able to see many of the performers from Woodstock. He saw Jimmie Hendrix when he performed at the Municipal Auditorium and he also attended the Hayride. He and his brother called themselves the Flett Brothers and began playing on the Bossier Strip. He was inspired by Michael Bloomfield, Keith Richards, Freddie King, Lead Belly, Steve Cropper, Booker T. & the M.G.'s and Paul Butterfield to name a few. He played with the original A Trains in the 80's. When the band broke up he played with his brother and the Bluebirds. After Kenny Wayne Shepherd began touring, Buddy played with him on the album 10 Days and sang Honky Tonk. Buddy went on tour with Kenny Wayne. Buddy has also played, with or opened for, Hubert Sumlin, Bonnie Raitt, Miki Honeycutt, Irma Thomas and Delbert McClinton, Gatemouth, Roomfull of Blues, and the Thunderbirds. He played Jazzfest in New Orleans both with A Train and The Bluebirds and opened for James Taylor on one occasion.
