Johnny Broussard was born in 1944 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Alvin J. Sr. and Ruth Broussard. His father worked for Riley-Beaird in Shreveport and his mother worked for Kilpatrick Life Insurance. Growing up Johnny worked in a grocery store and played music in garage bands and he played in the band Dino and the Cruisers. He attended Byrd High School and graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1962. In addition to the flute he plays alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. After graduation, he was a side man with various bands in Shreveport including with Chuck Fulco, the Bill Bush Combo at the Moulin Rouge on the Shreveport riverfront and the Harmon Drew band. He played with Jerry Beach at the New Orleans Jazz Fest and at the Montreal International Jazz Fest. Johnny was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 1998 and 1999 both individually and with the Bill Bush Combo. He also played for Percy Sledge for two years and has opened for Chaka Khan and has played in many casinos and festivals in the southern region. Johnny owns Broussard Painting and has one daughter and one grandson. |
