Robert J. Scott was born in 1947 in Hartford, Connecticut to Edward L. and Jeanette Radzniak Scott. Bob's father served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during WWII and his uncle served in the Korean War as a Marine. Bob graduated from Wethersfield High School and attended Worcester Tech in Worcester, Massachusetts, graduating with a civil engineering degree. He was preparing to attend Cornell graduate school when he was drafted. In 1969 he attended basic training at Fort Dix and AIT at Fort Lewis and was deployed to Vietnam in February of 1970 where he was assigned to the Americal Division and served in Alpha Company, 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry at LZ West. He extended his time in Vietnam and served the last five months on Hawk Hill in the security platoon. After discharge in April he returned to Cornell to obtain a graduate degree in city planning. After graduation, he moved to Virginia Beach where he was employed in the city planning department and was promoted to department head two years later. Bob married Denise R. Bowman in 1983 and they have two daughters. He has co-authored a book with Myles Pocta, Honor on the Line, which is about the 1940 football game between Cornell and Dartmouth. |
