As a young Jewish man from Louisiana, and a radio operator aboard a merchant ship before the war, he saw the Fuhrer, and watched Germans raise their hands in the Nazi salute. "Make you sick, everybody looking at him like he's a God," he recalls. Abraham Signoff was born in Jennings, Louisiana. Before the war he worked as a radio operator on merchant vessels. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and was stationed in England as an A-20 pilot in the 645th Squadron of the 410th Bomb Group. Abraham recalls flying over the landings soon after D-Day at Normandy. "All over the beach head, looks like somebody put pepper on it. That was the men dead," he recounts. Abraham flew forty missions. After the war he worked with the Federal Aeronautics Administration for forty years.
